Application Process

Step 1: Application Form

If you are interested in therapy at Share and you think the type of therapy we offer could help, the first step is to complete our application form.

The application form helps us understand your needs and place you in our waiting list. It’s important that you fill in the form fully and honestly.

If you need support with language or writing the form, please take the time to find someone to help you. Applications that are incomplete will be returned with guidance on what to do next.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email confirming that you have been added to our list of applicants. We will then use the information you provide to find a suitable appointment for you.

We consider several factors when allocating appointments, including:

  • Your availability

  • The complexity of your needs

  • The experience of our available therapists

When a suitable appointment becomes available, we will contact you to offer an initial meeting (see Step 2 below).

Waiting

We work hard to match applicants with appropriate appointments as quickly as possible. However, Share offers medium- to long-term therapy, and many clients stay with us for up to two years. Because of this, there may be a wait before you can begin therapy.

Step 2: The Initial Meeting

When an appointment becomes available, we will invite you to an initial meeting with one of our experienced therapists.

What happens at the initial meeting:

  • The meeting lasts up to 90 minutes.

  • You can talk about issues you are experiencing.

  • You and the therapist discuss how Share may be able to help you.

After the meeting, the therapist will type up their notes for our clinical manager to review and match you with a therapist if we feel Share can meet your needs. When an appropriate therapist becomes available, our office staff will contact you to offer a regular weekly appointment if appropriate.

Please note:

  • This process does not happen immediately; there will still be a waiting period before therapy starts.

  • The initial meeting is charged, whether or not you decide to enter therapy. For details, see our Paying for Therapy page.
